I started out more in construction than in real estate, and it was actually back in high school. I had been invited to an introduction to Engineering week at Washington State University. About two days into it, I realized that Engineering wasn?t for me.
I was kind of wandering around the architecture building, and I had always been interested in architecture. I think every kid has wanted to build or design something or both. I walked through and picked up a course curriculum for their construction management program. It was a little bit of engineering, some business, a lot of different types of classes. When you are 16 or 17 years old it is kind of exciting to see something that isn?t quite so narrow when you?re not sure what you want to do. I checked into the curriculum at the University of Washington and it actually was more appealing to me than other course options at other Universities. I entered the UW planning to go into building construction as a major. I got into the program early, found that I enjoyed it, and stayed with it.
